Cellulose: The Main Substance

Today, global paper consumption is around 500 million tones per year. As this consumption rate is expected to grow, cellulose as the main substance will be needed more and more. Let’s get to know this material better.

Preparing Pulp with Cellulose

To explain scientifically, cellulose is a polysaccharide that is formed by the combination of 1000-2000 glucose, similar to starch.

For paper production, firstly, the peeled logs are separated into fibers using disc and millstone equipment. The energy arising from friction is removed with the help of plenty of water. At the same time, this water provides to convey the extract formed by the separated cellulose and lignin fibers.

After the wood is crumbled into chips, it is dissolved in an alkali or lignin. This process is done in vertical boilers above 100 degrees Celsius. The pulp obtained as a result of the process is bleached with javel water or calcium chloride.

Cellulose’s Effect on The Final Product

Paper and paper products can be made of various types of raw materials. However, if you want to produce a strong and high-quality product, you should go with pure cellulose.

The reasons for that is the fact that other raw materials, pulp types, are mixed with chemicals which weaken the paper. This affects the paper’s structure, and the product ends up breaking down faster.

Cellulose’s Place in The Tissue Paper Industry

Hygienic tissue paper products such as toilet papers, paper towels, table napkins, are different than papers. They include less cellulose, recycled paper, and a little amount of wood pulp and they are weight less than printing paper.

There is a trend of manufacturing more bio-degradable and eco-friendly products. Based on the poll on our LinkedIn page there are many people who prefer to buy and use products that are manufactured by using 100% pure cellulose.
